UP LATE - BY SUZY BUCKLEY - OCEAN
DRIVE MAGAZINE - JUNE 2002
Michael Capponi succeeds because he puts a spry twist
on the familiar. Miamians have come to expect promoters to milk
their own birthday week (or month) with all the pre-end post party
events they can legibly squeeze onto a glossy 4x6 flyer, but Capponi
didn't exploit. We knew he'd nod to the occasion at B.E.D., his
Wednesday night party pillar.
(the kind of place Britney Spears, P. Diddy and Lenox Lewis show
on the same night), but were pleasantly surprised when he choose
to hold his official "30th celebration" on a Friday at
friend Pierre Bennatti's North Bay Road home. Supplementing his
roster of favorite South Florida friends (including Ingrid Casares,
Aimee Ruby, Nicolas Berggruen). Philip Levine, Nicola Siervo, Kim
Kulikowski, Tara Salomon, Cynthia Golub, Antonio Misuraca and Iran
Issa-Khan) was a pack of pleasantly erratic luminaries: a quite
legally married Anna Kurnikova showed up at the genteel cocktail
with a touchy-felly Enrique Iglesias and brother Julio Iglesias,
Jr.: Jerry Bruckheimer, in town to film this fall's CSI: Miami spin-off,
came with director Michael Bay; and Nat Rothschild, heir to the
famous banking dynasty, arrived alongside his father, Lord Rothschild.
But the biggest news centers on the summer's
hottest promotional team: Capponi, Misuraca and Casares are prepping
to produce "the most significant Friday night since 1995"
( at a yet-to-be-disclosed location). Follow their leads and take
the next few months to reflect on your social station: Poise yourself
for an A-List season and appreciate cheeky separatism's own reward.
